Lucky number 13! Actually, that’s really a lucky number for me and the reason why most Americans associate the number 13 with bad luck is questionable at best. In fact, nobody is totally sure of the origin. Some say it’s religious (doubtful), others point to the ancient Hamurrabi’s Code. But for me, it’s good luck. Allow me to explain.
In my culture, every energy has a number assigned to it. You’ve probably seen a lot of people using 18, or a wearing a lucky “chai” symbol around their necks, right? This number means life, and is part of an established gematria system.
Every word and energy is represented by a number, and all words are codes. Anyway, the energy and basis of one’s soul mate, or true love, is 26. And if we follow this wisdom, soul mates aren’t just romantic partners. They’re the souls we’re attached to that help us grow, learn and share love. The number 13 represents being your fullest half in relation to becoming the whole element. Pretty cool.
Maybe all that was too deep for a Friday morning, but I’ve been thinking a lot about luck being what you make of it. Hoping this perspective twist gives you something extra good to ponder over the weekend. Onto the goodies!
Smile-inducing:
World’s biggest four-day work week trial hailed a major breakthrough. Amen.
Heinz wants to find the man who survived nearly a month at sea with nothing but ketchup. They plan to buy him a new boat.
A fat cat has become the top-rated tourist attraction in a Polish city. The cat boasts a perfect 5-star average on Google Maps.
TikTok saved a small Vietnamese restaurant. A daughter filmed her dad, the internet did its thing, and now you can’t get a seat at the adorable place.
Eye-opening:
Guess what? Tempura isn’t even Japanese. Portuguese Catholics were visiting Japan in the 1500s (really!) and invented the dish there so they could observe Lent. I’m no Catholic, but it seems like this is a sign you should order tempura for lunch.
Your company can’t force you to sign their NDA in exchange for severance anymore. LOLOLOLOL. It’s unlawful.
It turns out ENYA is one of Ireland’s biggest exports. Yet there’s never been a concert, world tour or anything of the sort.
This goose was born without feet. So his owner outfitted him with Nikes. He became an icon for children with disabilities. The story takes a dark twist after the icon part. Shucks, if this doesn’t become a whole Netflix movie I’m going to cancel my membership.
What I’m loving right now:
This oatmeal-colored cotton velvet quilt. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m obsessed with this Quince bedding. It’s decently-priced and always a dupe for the ultra-expensive stuff. And easy to wash. Yes, my own bed is in the picture to prove the point. Also yes, I need to get the crib outta here.
These Orbit sneakers. I never thought I’d like podiatrist-approved shoes. I stand corrected. (see what I did there?) …but seriously, these are cute and absurdly comfortable. I switched to a standing desk a few months ago + walk a ton, and these are a dream. TBH, I got green but sort of regret not going with black.
Game-changing memory foam pillows. Holy moly, these are SO EXTRA GOOD. And technically I should put them in the sale section because they’re discounted, but I just love them so much I want them in all the sections. K?
Sales I’m shopping right now:
Voluspa candles are 25% off. Need an adorably packaged gift? This is a good start—sets are under $30 now.
Most of the Kate Somerville line is 25% off today. Scoop up faves quickly—the good stuff is selling out!
These bestselling Amazon jeans. They have mild shapewear built in and they’re on sale under $40 rn. I wrote this piece for Today’s Parent, but lemme tell you—I just got the slimming carpenter style in a sort of dusty color and OMG I CANT STOP WEARING THEM.
Refurbished Apple Watches (series 6) under $150! Likely going to sell out, limited supply. Excellent, ask-free return policy should you change your mind. They’re also selling earlier series for less, but I’d rather see you with a newer watch… ya know?
Every good mascara ever is 30% off right now. Seriously, think of basically any mascara brand you like. Then take 30% off. Sale ends tomorrow.
Musings:
I’m going, going, going to… Grenada (later this spring). Have you been recently? Would love your travel tips, ideas and must-sees!
Also heading to Toronto in the next few weeks. Samesies. I mean, I used to work there once upon a time… but that was years ago and I’m sure everything is totally different so hit me with all the things I need to eat, see, do, shop, experience, etc.
I want your feedback + thoughts. Have a link you’d like to share for the top of the next newsletter? Email me! Have ideas about what you’d like to see more of? I want that feedback too. Your voice matters.

That duck story :( so sad!! Also, 13 is my lucky number, too! But it's because I was born on September 13th - love the symbolism behind it though. Have a fab weekend!!
